The Burmese Refugee Project

Few of us can donate as much as we would like. If you would like to amplify your gift, consider becoming an ambassador for the BRP and involving others in your giving. You could do this by:

  1. listing the Burmese Refugee Project on your birthday party invite or wedding registry through a website like JustGive,

  2. hosting and promoting an event (and earning brownie points for yourself) through CrowdRise,

  3. adopting your favorite local bar, café, or salon and placing a collection box there,

  4. nominating us for employer or corporate drives, or

  5. suggesting that we receive a percentage of the next office pool or poker game winnings.

It all adds up.

And the possibilities are endless. You’re probably more creative than we are, so let us know if we should be suggesting other ideas.

If you would like to host a fundraiser on our behalf, please let us know, as there are guidelines as to what should be included on public materials. We may also be able to attend the event and speak about our work, or help in some other way.

If you choose to raise funds online, here are the main options:

  1. Linking to our Donations or Google Checkout pages gives us the most proceeds, as we don’t have to pay for any transaction fees... BUT you don’t get to keep track of your progress or have a nice public profile of yourself as our ambassador. (We can, however, keep track for you if you ask folks to mention you in their donation memos.) This is the best option if you want to keep your campaign private.

  2. Linking to a website like JustGive lets you list the Burmese Refugee Project on a registry for any occasion, and to keep track of your progress, BUT 3% of all donations go to transaction fees. This is the best option if you are thinking of helping us in honor of a specific social occasion, like your wedding, marathon run, or birthday.

  3. Hosting and promoting an event through CrowdRise allows you to produce and upload videos, progress reports, and other media pieces for your fundraising campaign, as you would for a social networking site. CrowdRise also gives you brownie points for prizes, based on the amount of money you raise.... BUT more than 5% of all donations go to transaction fees. This is the best option if you have ideas on how to make a splash and reach out to the larger public.

Thank you so much for your support!
